Our Professionals

Coming from a family history of hearing loss, with a profoundly deaf younger brother, I know first-hand how difficult it is for everyone involved having a conversation with a person who is hearing impaired.

I have devoted my entire professional career to serving the hearing impaired community and their families.

In 1982 I started out at A.R. Menzies, I then moved to Shorney’s Optical before opening Cheryl’s Hearing Services over 20 years ago. About 10 years ago I acquired other offices in Amherst, Saint John, Moncton, Truro and Halifax. Having all these locations and 3 different company names we made the decision, about 4 years ago, to change all the names to Innovative Hearing Solutions, Inc. Having a client-base in Woodstock we decided to open a location there about 1 year ago.

I believe it is important for a business to give back to the communities that they are in, and we do this by donating to many local charities. I also believe it is important to give back to the industry we are in, that is why we support to the Starkey Hearing Foundation. I had the honor of going on a mission a couple of years ago to Toluca, Mexico and hopefully will be going on another mission this year to celebrate 30 years in business.

I have 2 children, Jennifer, who has finished her Master’s in psychology and counseling and Jeffrey, who has a Diploma in Marketing from a local Community College. I am also a dog lover having a Labradoodle named Boston.

In the summer, we spend the majority of our free time at our cottage with friends and family. We enjoy the sun, boating and fires by the lake.

Being a people person, I enjoy interacting with my clients and making sure their experience with us is a comfortable and fun one.

Erin Gibson

Erin Gibson B.Sc.(Bio) B.Sc.(Eng) HIS

I have been working for Innovative Hearing Solutions since October 2010. I graduated with high distinction from the Hearing Instrument Specialist program at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario. My education included classes such as Audiometry, Advanced Audiometry, Acoustics and Psycoacoustics, Anatomy and Physiology and Hearing Aid Fitting Methods to name a few. I have studied to work in this profession and trained in the hearing healthcare field for 4 years. Previously, I was working as a research and development engineer with a medical device manufacturer in Toronto, Ontario. The work was rewarding but I didn’t get to interact with the public as much as I would have liked. I graduated with degrees in Biology and Biological Engineering (Biomedical) from the University of Guelph. With both a medical and engineering background, I am very comfortable dealing with any hearing aid related issues and can handle repairs and adjustments of most hearing aids, both old and new. My favorite part of being a hearing instrument specialist is troubleshooting the different problems and needs of my clients and finding the best hearing solution for them, whether that means fixing their existing hearing aids or selling them new ones. Hearing aids should not be uncomfortable and should not make noise. I like problem solving and talking to people. Both of these interests come in handy in my line of work. Originally from Montreal, I completed my early education in French and am fully bilingual.

I have made Woodstock my home since moving here in 2010. I bought a house in town, right on the Saint John River. With the hiking trail running behind the property and easy access to the water, I enjoy taking full advantage of where I live and can often be found walking my border collie, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or kayaking depending on the season. Also an avid hockey player, I am a member of the local women’s hockey team, the Hartland Panthers. I am happy to have made such great friends so quickly. While attending the Valley Networking Group meetings, I have also had a chance to meet and get to know local business women. All in all, I’ve met some great people in Woodstock and am very happy I moved here.

Innovative Hearing Solutions has been in Woodstock for one year as of March 1st but has been in the hearing healthcare industry for 30 years. Business has been growing steadily since our doors opened. We are very grateful to our growing number of loyal clients. We would like to thank our existing clients who made the move with us from our Fredericton office and to our new clients who have made us feel so welcome.

Marie Cole

My name is Marie Cole. I am married with two adult sons, as well as three little granddaughters. I've lived in the Moncton area for most of my life.

I have a natural interest in the "art of hearing" because I have lived with a hearing impairment since early adulthood, and consequently have been wearing hearing aids for 45 years.

I became very interested in the hearing industry years ago, primarily because of my own hearing condition. Because of this initial interest, I decided to take a course through the International Hearing Society, and my education and experience developed from there. As I was taking these courses, I was well aware that I was experiencing first-hand, the same hearing difficulties that others were going through daily. With this insight, I realized that I could help others who were also experiencing hearing difficulties in their everyday life. I continued to study and received my Board Certification as a Hearing Instrument Specialist (HIS) in 1993. Since then, I have continued to study to keep up with the fast pace of the ever changing technology of the hearing aid industry.

Because hearing loss is often very gradual, the individual with the hearing loss often doesn't even realize how much they have been missing. It never fails to thrill me when I can bring someone from a world of frustration because of their hearing difficulties, to a place where they can again hear the birds chirping, hear children's voices, fully participate in conversations, and they can once again truly enjoy life. It's only once they are able to rejoin into all the conversations around them that they realize just how much they were missing out on. I never get tired of seeing the expression on their face when I fit them with a hearing aid for the very first time — it's at that moment, when they are finally able to hear properly again, that they realize everything they had been missing.

There is an expression that I feel is very true “Silence is golden BUT hearing is priceless". I personally know this to be true. And through my personal experience and professional knowledge, my goal is to continue to help as many people as I can to hear well, and to hear naturally — so they too can get back to enjoying life.

Bonnie WintonMy name is Bonnie Winton. Originally from Dalhousie, NB, I left there in 2003 to pursue my university studies in Halifax, NS at Saint Mary’s University. Four years later, I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Biology and Psychology. At that time, I knew I wanted to be in the Healthcare field so I participated in some job shadowing in various medical professions and knew immediately that audiology was the one for me. I was fortunate to be accepted into one of the finest Audiology programs in Canada and in 2010 I received a Masters in Audiology from the University of Western Ontario in London, ON. Although I enjoyed my years in London, I am a Maritimer at heart longed to be back on the East Coast.

I began my career with HorizonNB at the Miramichi Hospital as the Audiologist for one year and then accepted the position as Audiologist at the new Costco Hearing Aid Center in Fredericton where I remained for two years. I am excited to begin a new chapter of my professional career at Innovative Hearing Solutions and look forward to working with the team here.

I am currently a member of the New Brunswick as well as the Canadian Association of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists. I enjoy working and interacting with people of all ages and know how hearing empowers us and enriches our lives. This is why I love doing what I do—being able to diagnose and prescribe the best hearing aids to allow people to continue to socialize, work, communicate and live a better life.

I have made Fredericton my home and enjoy this beautiful city. During my free time, I love running outdoors on the beautiful trails along the St. John River; as well, I enjoy doing yoga.
