cherylstarkeymissiontoluca6Here is Cheryl (top left), President of innovative hearing solutions, on her first mission with the Starkey Hearing Foundation. This mission was completed in Toluca, Mexico and broke the foundations record, fitting approx. 3100 people with their first hearing aids, in only 6 days. An amazing cause and amazing volunteers! There are several videos of their work on youtube.com as well as the foundations Facebook page where numerous pictures, stories and videos from the mission are documented. This little boy, Mario, was certainly glad to receive his hearing aids.

It is truly amazing to witness the advancements of technology over the years. It keeps getting better and better…

DOG gets $3,000 wireless hearing aid!!!

Late last year, Timmy the service dog has become the second dog in the U.S. to receive a wireless hearing aid. Timmy is a ten and a half year old Springer-Labrador-Bassett mix and lives on Young’s Funny Farm with his proud owner Neil Young.  The Young’s rescued Timmy in 1999, and he became Neil’s service dog.

The Young’s run the nonprofit Young’s Funny Farm therapy of therapy animals that visit schools, nursing homes, festivals and other events. In October 2001, Timmy starting working at the Family Assistance Center in New York City and was chosen by the NYC Police Dept. to work at Ground Zero after 9/11.

Timmy lost his hearing in the early Autumn months of last year, so “We raised close to what we needed” Young said, and was tested in a soundproof booth, had an impression taken, and was fit with a wireless hearing in his left ear on December 16th, 2009.

“They found a 30 decibel increase,” Young explained, “and that’s what we wanted!”

Stories like this are incredible! So inspiring and hopeful…

Wishing Timmy all the best life’s sounds have to offer! J

Having the privilege of working with many retired VETERANS over the years and having heard some amazing stories, I find it hard to believe that someone or some people would try to destroy the Cenotaph so close to REMEMBRANCE DAY. It is through their character, courage, honor and love for this country that we live in such a wonderful place we call Canada. I salute you all! For those of you that did this SHAME ON YOU!

Pete sat in the chair and turned on his new digital hearing aids for the first time. With a flick of a switch his eyes immediately widened. His weathered face brightened. A whole new world had just been opened up to him. Pete has been blind for many years. On top of that he had been diagnosed with a profound hearing loss. Back then he was prescribed basic hearing devices which were 6 years old. His family was inquiring about the new technology that is available today. He was told that because of the severity of his hearing loss, that he should not expect much help, but that it would be better than nothing.

Well nothing could have been further from the truth. Pete had been coming to our office for years and we could not have a casual conversation with him as he just could not make out what we were saying. His wife would interpret as best she could as he was more familiar with her voice but it was physically exhausted for her to do so.

The day of the fitting of his new hearing aids we put them on him, hook them up, tweaked the adjustments a bit and it was truly amazing how we could now sit and have a real conversation with each other. His wife and I teared up as it was truly amazing.

Since that first day when he experienced the new technology, he’s been back a few times as we’ve been adjusting and fine tuning hi new digital aids. After years of frustration, his life has drastically changed. He can now hear well enough to understand and communicate with his wife, kids, caregiver, and his many new friends. He is going for walks alone again and feels more confident to do that, he is back attending rotary which he had given up and he feels like a new man.

“This new technology has literally changed my life. I got my independence back as I stopped going out by myself and walking by myself. I can now have a conversation with my wife and family.”

It was a typical blustery grey, November afternoon here in Fredericton when a long term client came in to see me. I didn’t think she had an appointment, so I was surprised when I saw her standing at the front desk, shaking off the November cold from her overcoat.

I was a little concerned, because in the 2 years since getting her hearing evaluation and eventually being fitted with her hearing aids; her life had completely been transformed.

Every time she’d come in for her scheduled adjustment, she would tell me about how she so loved talking with her grandchildren on the phone, hearing their giggles and their soft voices saying “ we love you Nana”.

But this visit wasn’t for herself.

You see, about 3 years earlier, both she and her sister had been diagnosed with the exact same type of hearing loss. The problem was that, even though they had the same type of hearing aids, her sister was still un-able to get the same results that she was getting.

Numerous visits over the next few months revealed a common problem I see all the time.

You see, everyone’s hearing loss is different. And even though the two sisters had the exact type of hearing loss, on paper, the remedy for that loss was totally different based on their individual life styles. We fitted her sister with a completely different technology and today she couldn’t be happier.

I look forward to meeting you soon,

Sincerely,

Cheryl Morehouse

Mr. Prospect, would you agree that driving a motor vehicle is a huge possibility? Safe driving requires clear vision, actually hearing, and good reflexes. Otherwise, you are a safety hazard other people as well as yourself. I may share the story about a client…

I had a client one time that was driving on the highway and he did not have his hearing aids on. An ambulance had put on their lights and siren behind him and they were unable to get by him for some distance, they did get by him eventually but not without writing down his license plate and reported him to the RCMP. The next day the RCMP showed up at his door questioning him about the situation and the man explained that he had not had his hearing aids on so he did not hear the ambulance until they were almost by him. The RCMP officer said that he was not going to give him a ticket this time around but for him to always wear his hearing aids for safety reasons whenever he was driving

“I experienced hearing loss in my workplace many years ago. Hearing aids have helped me in so many ways. My experience with innovative hearing has been very good, the atmosphere is great, the friendliness is incomparable and I don’t want to say there’s a home-town feel but that’s exactly what it is, very comfortable. The biggest difference in my new hearing aids is clarity. There is much less background noise, they are much better. If you have older hearing aids, consider getting new ones. Take a visit, check out the newest technology, and give it a try!”
-    Tony Rice, from N.B.

“I didn’t realize I had a hearing loss, my family noticed first. They were tired of repeating themselves, so I took a visit to innovative hearing. They were knowledgeable, friendly and prompt. I would recommend innovative hearing and hearing aids. Mine are inconspicuous, the batteries last a long time and they relieved a lot of stress and tension in my life.”
-    William Curtis, from N.B.

“I started noticing that I could not hear as well as I used to. My family was beginning to take notice as well. I’ve been wearing hearing aids for years but just purchased my most recent pair in January. I knew that technology had advanced so much and I wanted to try the newer technology in order to hear well. The staff at innovative were as helpful as always. I am now hearing better and am less bothered by background noise. Depending on the age of hearing aids, there could be room for improvement. If using older aids check it out, there is a trial period.”
-    Patricia Lucas-Golden, from N.B.

“I could always hear fine at home but had so much trouble in background noise. It seemed I could hear everyone, but only understand a few. I decided to get new hearing aids because I did not have a volume control on my old aids and had a significant change in my hearing. Technology is better and with my vision getting worse and worse, I decided to go with better hearing aids. I like the way I’m treated at innovative hearing. They listen to me and what I need. They are all wonderful people, just sweethearts!”
-    Irene Leckie, from N.B.

“ I am so please that I got a second hearing aid. I love the better technology and the 2nd aid. My left ear has been dormant for many years, it has now awoken. The specialist is a very nice person and a lot of fun. The excellent service keeps me coming back!”
-    Bernice Laking, from N.B.

“I have been wearing hearing aids since 1984, I have macular degeneration and rely more on my hearing than ever before. I can’t read anymore but I need to be able to communicate. I come to innovative hearing because the specialist and I are both witty and we get along very well. I guess you are never too old to buy hearing aids.”
-    Jean Snow, from N.B.

“My new hearing aids have helped me and my family 100%. I have been a client of innovative hearing solutions in Moncton for many years now and the service I have always received has been great. I have no complaints at all. The new technology has improved the way I hear and it’s so good to be able to hear accurately again, as my old aids were wore out and I wasn’t doing well with them at all. I have always recommended this office to my friends and family and will continue to do so.”
-    Frederick Bourgeois, from N.B.

“I am in my nineties and have been wearing hearing aids for many years now. I have always gone to the innovative office in Amherst. The girls there are great and the service is 100%, I would not even think of going anywhere else. My experience with them has exceeded my expectations. The technology in my new hearing aids is awesome; I can’t believe how well I hear with them. I highly recommend this office to anyone who has a hearing loss. I tell them to go in and speak with Marie, she’ll help you.”
-    Allie Daley, from N.S.

“My appreciation for the wonderful hearing aids innovative hearing solutions has provided me cannot be told in words. There aren’t enough words to explain my gratitude to the staff for improving my quality of life. With many, many thanks!”
-    June Nuttall & Family, from N.S.

“I have been a client for over 28 years and although there is another clinic closer to me, I will continue to come here because the service is excellent and Lori is so sweet and knowledgeable. All the staff have been friendly and so courteous. I have recently gone from Analog aids to Digital. I hear much better and would recommend digital hearing aids to anyone.”
